Winn Amateur Radio Emergency Services was established in 2006
to meet the emergency communications of Winn Parish after the
communication losses of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita of 2005. WARES is an
attempt to bring back ham radio in Winn Parish. Winn Parish once had an
active organization, however, like so many other communities, interest
dwindled. Our club 2 meter repeater is on 147.060+ located in downtown
Winnfield. The tone is 173.8. Current operations are the
support of the Emergency Operations Center at Winn Parish Medical
Center. We will also attempt to place other operation centers around the
parish as personnel and equipment become available. Monthly meeting
will be held the first Friday of each month at 7:00 PM in the Board
Room (or Cafeteria if locked) at Winn Parish Medical Center. In the event of a holiday, the
meeting will be the second Friday at the same time and place. Club
